Andrew graduated with a first-class honours degree in animation from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee before making the crossover to live action filmmaking. He then set up a media company to make promotional films for national clients as well as his own short films, several of which were nominated for awards in the UK and across Europe. In 2010 Creative Scotland described him as, ‘a young talent to watch’ and he began his studies at the National Film & Television School in 2011.
Andrew’s NFTS graduation film RADIANCE, a supernatural thriller about a girl with a dangerous condition, was nominated for best film at the BAFTA Scotland New Talent Awards in 2013. Since then, he has made the award-winning 3D short film BENEATH, a claustrophobic psychological drama, and is currently developing two feature films.
In 2015 he was selected by the BBC to direct OAKWOOD, a short drama exclusively for the BBC iPlayer. He also shot KAI, produced by i-D and VICE MAGAZINES as part of a competition curated by Cannes Jury Prize winning director Xavier Dolan. The film has been viewed over one million times on social media was made a Vimeo Staff Pick.
This year Andrew has directed 4 x 60’ episodes of the continuing BBC Scotland drama RIVER CITY.
